Records Fall in Men’s Mile, 4x400-Meter Relay To Close Out Tyson Invitational
February 14, 2026 | Track & Field
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A pair of Tennessee track & field program records fell Saturday as the Vols closed out the Tyson Invitational with a strong final day at the Randal Tyson Track Center. Freshman distance standout Nelson Mapi Setek lowered his own school record in the mile, while Andrew Brown, Andre Jackson II, Saad Hinti and Harry Barton combined for the fastest indoor 4x400-meter relay in program history.
Setek captured the championship men's mile in 3:55.90, shaving more than two seconds off his previous school record of 3:58.37, which he set two weeks earlier at the John Thomas Terrier Classic. The new personal best ranks second in the SEC and stands as the second-fastest time by an NCAA Division I freshman this season, according to the most recent TFRRS listings.
Brown, Jackson, Hinti and Barton punctuated the meet with a school-record 3:02.46 in the 4x400-meter relay, eclipsing the previous program mark of 3:04.08 that had stood since 2021. The performance ranks second nationally this season and elevated Tennessee to No. 9 on the all-time collegiate indoor 4x400 list. The Vols finished second in the event behind Florida, which posted the NCAA-leading time of 3:02.15.
Tennessee added several more notable performances as the Vols and Lady Vols wrapped up the indoor regular season. Junior Grant Campbell claimed the university-section title in the men's high jump with an indoor personal-best clearance of 2.19 meters (7-2.25), moving to No. 7 on the program's all-time list and No. 12 nationally for the 2025–26 season. On the women's side, sophomore Esther Joseph secured a victory in the 200-meter dash, clocking a sub-23 time of 22.94 that ranks seventh nationally this season, fourth in school history and No. 8 on the African all-time list.
The Big Orange also posted multiple top-10 marks in program history in the men's 200-meter dash and women's mile. Davonte Howell (20.58) and T'Mars McCallum (20.69) each recorded indoor personal bests in the 200, ranking seventh and ninth all-time at Tennessee, respectively. In the women's mile, Mary Nyaboke Ogwoka (4:34.61) and Tula Fawbush (4:39.29) slotted in at No. 2 and No. 4 on the program's all-time list. Ogwoka's performance also broke her own UT freshman record in the event.
In the women's 4x400-meter relay, the Lady Vol quartet of Esther Joseph, Javonya Valcourt, Cydney Wright and Jounee Armstrong narrowly missed their season best with a time of 3:29.47, finishing fifth at the meet. Their time ranked third in program history.
Lady Vol junior Skye Tolbert capped the day with a strong showing in the championship women's pole vault, finishing fourth overall after clearing 4.40 meters (14-5.25). The mark ranks third on Tennessee's all-time indoor list.
