Layd Vols Celebrate During Road Sweep Over Queens

CHARLOTTE -- A full-team offensive effort led No. 16 Tennessee to its first road victory of the season, securing the sweep over Queens (25-14, 25-13, 25-18) on Tuesday evening.

The Lady Vols (7-1) have now won seven of their first eight matches of the 2026 season, with all seven victories coming in three sets. Tennessee closed the match with 43 kills on .344 hitting, to go along with 40 assists, 36 digs, eight aces and seven blocks.

Four players finished with seven or more kills in the win, with freshman outside hitter Morgan Williams leading the way with 10. Jalyn Stout and Maggie Dostic finished with nine each, with Dostic also pacing the Lady Vols with nine digs. Caroline Kerr fed the offensive attack with 32 assists, adding five digs and a team-high three aces.

On the back row, senior libero Raegan Burns posted seven digs, while also recording three assists and an ace. Anni Tang had a strong evening at the net, logging a team-leading five blocks. UT held the Royals (3-7) to 19 attack errors and a .121 hitting percentage.

After a quick start in the first set by Queens, Tennessee would use a 9-1 run to take control of the frame. The Lady Vol offense got off to a hot start to open the match, recording 14 kills on .444 hitting. Williams and Stout led the offense with six and four kills respectively. Tang got her evening started at the net with three blocks, while the Big Orange defense held Queens to a .065 hitting percentage.

The Lady Vols dominated in the second stanza, finishing with 16 kills on an outstanding .583 hitting percentage. A pair of runs in the middle of the set put Tennessee in complete control en route to a two-set advantage. Dostic put on an offensive display in the set, with nine kills on a .900 hitting percentage. Tennessee assisted 15 of its 16 kills in the second set, with Kerr posting 14. Queens' offense was quieted throughout the set, mustering only nine kills on .111 hitting.

Queens tried to stave off the sweep, getting out to an early lead. Tennessee battled back, tying the score midway through the third before scoring five unanswered points to put away the match and secure the sweep. The defense was crucial in the final set, recording 17 digs and three blocks. Tang finished the action with two more blocks, while Nia Hall stepped up with a pair of blocks of her own.
